It is the tragic love story of the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Yseult. Having fought successfully against the Irish in the name of his king and uncle Mark of Cornwall, Tristan’s mission is to bring Yseult to Mark so that he can marry her. On the way, they accidentally drink from a love potion and thus fall in love with each other. Their affair with each other finally gets punished. Tristan is hung and Yseult is burnt at the stake. So the legend goes.

Theatre director Emma Rice has taken on the legend with a stunning result. With modern costumes and great choreographies, the Kneehigh company has turned it into an explosive mixture of comedy, live music, grand passion and tender truths. Sticking to the original tale, this production tells the story through the eyes of those who miss out of love and who get together in the so-called ‘Club of the Unloved’.
