One of the defining pop-rock bands of the late 1980s is coming to Brighton. Transvision Vamp, fronted by Wendy James, play Chalk on Wednesday 28 October. It is part of the band’s first UK tour since 1991.

The 16-date tour started in Newcastle on 6 October and runs until 1 November, with stops in London, Glasgow, Dublin and Belfast. It follows a sold-out run in Australia and New Zealand and shows in Portugal and Spain in September.

“We Take No Prisoners”

Wendy James is clearly excited to be back on the road:

“Words cannot express the feelings I have to be touring Transvision Vamp again! Joy! Thrill!! The band’s history, which began in 1988, has passed through many eras! And yet, here we are, belting out the very songs which captured everyone’s hearts all those years ago. It is fresh, it is redux, it is powerful.”

“I am surrounded by the best musicians in the world, and when we take to the stage, it is a force to be reckoned with. We take no prisoners. The crowds are ecstatic, and we meet as partners: The Band and The Audience are equal partners in this incredible show. I cannot wait to bring it to the UK and plant our flag!”

The Band

The 2026 line-up includes two original members, Wendy James (vocals) and Dave Parsons (bass). They are joined by Alex Ward (guitar and vocals), Pip Stakem (guitar and vocals), Matt Millership (keyboards and vocals) and James Sclavunos (drums).

Transvision Vamp formed in West London around Wendy James, Nick Christian Sayer, Dave Parsons and Tex Axile. They were signed to MCA Records by A&R figure Dave Ambrose and released their breakthrough debut album, Pop Art, in 1988. Hits including Baby I Don’t Care and I Want Your Love followed, and Wendy James became one of the most recognisable faces of the era.

Chalk, in Pool Valley near the seafront, holds about 750 people, which makes it one of the most intimate rooms on the tour. Brighton has a strong appetite for returning guitar bands, with Echo & The Bunnymen, The Jesus & Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs and Sleeper all lined up for the city. A midweek gig in a venue this size is likely to sell out.
