Time to get creative, as Brighton Fringe is searching for a young artist from Brighton & Hove to design the cover of their 2020 Family Guide. The competition is open to local under 12s, who are encouraged to submit an original piece of artwork that responds to this year’s tagline: “Dive In”.
Brighton Fringe is England’s largest arts festival, and their Family Guide outlines the exciting family-friendly events taking place throughout the event. This year, 70,000 copies of the Family Guide are going to be printed and distributed across Brighton & Hove and beyond.
Young creatives can interpret the “Dive In” theme as open-mindedly as they like, but their design must not include definitive local landmarks such as the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Palace Pier and i360.
The lucky winner’s entry will be printed on the cover of all 70,000 copies of the 2020 Brighton Fringe Family Guide, and will win £200 to spend on tickets at the upcoming Brighton Fringe. The first prize winner will also receive a Gold Friends of Brighton Fringe membership, which will entitle them to 2 for 1 offers on events, and much more…
Three runners up will also be selected, who will win two tickets to a Brighton Fringe children’s show of their choice.
Last year’s winner was Silvia Bracher, aged 6, who responded to the theme “Dare to Discover” with an incredibly charming illustration that captured the Fringe’s curiosity and creativity. She drew a family gathering on the moon, alongside a cat and dog.

The CEO of Brighton Fringe, Julian Caddy, said:
Brighton Fringe is all about giving people a platform to make things happen. It is a catalyst, a conduit for every possible kind of creative work to take place. It therefore makes for the greatest ‘pool’ of talent in the country, in one place, at the same time, and we invite the public to immerse themselves, to dive into what is on offer.
Competition entrants are encouraged to use an A4 piece of paper in landscape orientation for their submission. The final cover image will be shrunk down to A5, so make sure that the design does not include any writing or drawing that is incredibly small. The competition only is open to under 12s living in Brighton & Hove.
The closing date for the competition is Friday 20th December 2019. Make sure to include the young artist’s name, age, school and parent or guardian’s email on the back of the picture. Then pop the design in the post and send the A4 landscape entry to:
