After a decade on our screens, you’d think Gogglebox favourite Stephen Webb couldn’t walk down the street without being recognised. But on a recent trip to Benidorm, the much-loved TV personality discovered a surprising new freedom — complete anonymity. The secret? Webb has ditched his trademark spectacles for good, thanks to life-changing vision correction surgery at the internationally renowned Centre for Sight in Surrey. Performed by world-leading eye surgeon Sheraz Daya, the procedure has left Stephen spectacle-free — and briefly unrecognisable.
“Not a single person recognised me without my glasses,” Stephen reveals. “It was honestly the first time in ten years that I could walk around freely — it felt amazing!”
While sharper vision has transformed his day-to-day life, Stephen says the most unexpected perk was his newfound ability to blend in abroad. In fact, one fan even messaged him on Instagram, asking if it was really him they had spotted in Benidorm, since he looked so different without his signature glasses.
Now back home in Brighton, Stephen is embracing his new look and newfound freedom, crediting the team at Centre for Sight for giving him “a whole new lease on life.”
Centre for Sight founder and Medical Director, Sheraz Daya, said: “It’s always a privilege to help patients achieve independence from glasses and contact lenses. We’re delighted Stephen is enjoying not just the visual benefits, but also the added — and unexpected — lifestyle perks.”
