Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club is thrilled to announce the signing of promising young winger Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old Gambian international has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, keeping him at the Amex Stadium until June 2029.

Minteh, who spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, caught the eye of Brighton’s scouting network with his blistering pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring prowess. During his time in the Netherlands, he made 31 appearances across all competitions, netting 9 goals and providing 4 assists, playing a crucial role in Feyenoord’s domestic campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Technical Director David Weir expressed his excitement about the club’s latest acquisition: “Yankuba is a player we’ve been tracking for some time, and we’re delighted to have secured his signature. He perfectly fits the profile of young, hungry talent that we aim to develop here at Brighton. His performances in the Eredivisie and for the Gambian national team have shown he has the potential to become a top-class player in the Premier League.”

Head Coach Roberto De Zerbi added: “Yankuba brings a new dimension to our attacking options. His pace and directness will complement our style of play, and I look forward to working with him to further develop his game.”

Minteh, who will wear the number 22 shirt for the Seagulls, shared his enthusiasm about joining the club: “I’m thrilled to be joining Brighton & Hove Albion. The club’s reputation for developing young players and playing attractive football was a major factor in my decision. I can’t wait to get started and contribute to the team’s success in the Premier League and Europe.”

The signing of Minteh further demonstrates Brighton’s commitment to investing in young talent and building for the future. The club’s recent success in the Premier League and qualification for European competition have made it an attractive destination for emerging stars looking to make their mark on the biggest stage.

Minteh is expected to join up with his new teammates for pre-season training in early July, as Brighton prepare for another exciting campaign in the Premier League and their inaugural European adventure.
