As we come towards the end of January, it’s time to celebrate with some quality live music. This week we have selected a range of the best gigs which showcase Brighton and Hove’s diverse sound and inclusive culture.
The Rock House @ The Green Door Store, Monday 21st January
‘The Rock House’, presented by Carousel, is a monthly music night involving a range of Brighton-based Bands – some who have learning disabilities and some who don’t. Fuzzbomb Flash Band, The Sticks, The Carbonators, MC Silvercatt, and Louis Walkden will be performing blues, jazz, rock and pop throughout the evening. Described by Brighton Finest as ‘Unrestrained and Joyful’ this inclusive event may be exactly what you need on Blue Monday.

Steve Mason @ Resident Brighton, Tuesday 22nd January
To celebrate his fourth album ‘About The Light’, Steve Mason will be performing (and signing!) at Resident, an independent record shop in the North Lanes. Join Steve in this intimate venue for joyous songs that encompass love, fatherhood and life in Brighton.

Lost Under Heaven & Pearl City @ Rialto, Wednesday 23rd January
Lost Under Heaven is an Art Rock Duo consisting of Ebony Hoorn and Ellery James, who’s epic-sounding electronic beats and signature vocals meant that their debut album ‘Spiritual Songs For Lovers To Sing’ was critically acclaimed.
As part of their Tour ‘L0VE.HATES.WHAT.Y0U.BECOME’ they will be performing their apocalyptic sound at the Gothic Rialto.

Jack Conman @ The Brunswick, Thursday 24th January
Jack Conman is a 21 year-old singer-songwriter from Hull. His goosebump-inducing sounds meant that his Deput EP, ‘Euphoria Springs’ hit number five in the ITunes Singer/Songwriter Charts in 2016. Recently, his video for Colors (a unique music platform on Youtube showcasing a range of exceptional artists from around the world) has sparked even more attention for this young but mature songwriter. His transcendental sounds seem too good to miss at £5 a ticket.

Trojan Sound System – 50th Anniversary @ Concorde 2, Friday 25th January
With their ability to go beyond age, race and political constraints, Trojan Sound System may represent one of the most seminal reggae and ska record labels in history. Unifying audiences with their sensational sounds, they have managed repeatedly to satisfy old school ska lovers, whilst also introducing new generations to the roots of bass music and Jamaican culture. Club Africa @ Komedia, Saturday 26th January
Three of Brighton’s best selectors of African music, African Night Fever, AfroBase and Yam Yam are teaming up to bring you some top Afro-Tropical beats. Ranging from the retro sounds to the modern day, this collaboration will provide an excellent performance of world music.

The Messthetics @ The Hope and Ruin, Sunday 27th January
The Messthetics, featuring Brendan Canty (drums), Joe Lally (bass), and Anthony Pirog (guitar) are an international trio. Including Jazz, punk and improvised music their groovy sounds are sure to provide an uplifting finish to the end of January.
