Take a trip to comedy at the Devonshire Park Theatre this summer with the brand-new production of John Godber classic Men of the World from 18 – 21 July.

This hilarious and moving comedy from John Godber, master of observation and one of the country’s most popular playwrights, follows three northern coach drivers, Stick, Larry and Frank as they prepare for a mystery trip to Scarborough.

They soon start to take a trip down memory lane and recount memorable coach trips from their past. New recruit Stick hates his passengers and wishes he was doing the Spanish run with a coachload of youngsters, Larry is a seasoned traveller on his final journey before retirement looms and Frank is their female counterpart, these battle-weary drivers have seen it all.

The show is bursting with compassion, nostalgia and humour and takes a look at the small and often overlooked moments of magic in our lives as just 3 actors play a vast number of characters, from the dotty old complainers to the retired miners seeking excitement on too little money.

Produced by Phil&Ben the production team behind Absent Friends and Gaslight, this is the final production in their mini-season at the Devonshire Park Theatre this summer.

Written by hugely acclaimed playwright John Godber OBE, the third most-produced writer after Shakespeare and Sir Alan Ayckbourn. His plays are performed across the world and he has won numerous awards, including a Laurence Olivier Award and seven Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards.
