Laine Pub Company, the operator of such favoured establishments in Brighton’s vibrant Lanes as the Mesmerist, the Bath Arms and East Street Tap, has brought a little bit of Manhattan, loft-style chic to the area with its latest venture, the Oculist in Boyce’s Street.

Sited in an historic Victorian building that was once the location of the original Sussex Eye Hospital, the Oculist provides a spacious and stylish internal and al fresco drinking, dining, dancing and working environment, from morning through to very late at night.  With comfortable seated booths of varying shapes and sizes located throughout its vast vaulted interior and its crows’ nest roof terraces overlooking the Lanes, the Oculist is an irresistible proposition for social occasions ranging from a quiet coffee with a laptop, through lunch, dinner and drinks with friends, to a full-on, high energy night out.  References to all things ocular in the design and décor of the bar are combined with double high walls and ceilings stripped back to brick and cement, to create one of the coolest new hangouts in Brighton.

The range of food available throughout the day and night, includes an appetizing brunch menu, light bites, a range of interesting small plates and an enviable selection of main meals.  With a bar full of the finest hot and cold drinks from local and world producers, a cocktail menu that wouldn’t seem out of place on a New York hotel rooftop, and a portfolio of craft beers including Brighton brewed offerings from Laine Brew Co, the Oculist offers the very best in refreshment at any time of the day or night.

The playlist of the best in electronic music, evolves as the day progresses, so that chilled daytime sounds gradually move into elevated electronic beats as the energy of the gathering increases. And when control of the tracks is taken over at night by some of Brighton and London’s most in-demand, underground electronic DJs, customers are up and dancing, ready to party into the early hours.

Management partner of the Oculist and resident of Brighton, Hattie Aoun, comments “We want the Oculist to be the place where our customers will have a brilliant experience, whatever the time of day and whatever the group size.  We are ready for every occasion and we delight in making our customers feel welcomed as soon as they walk through the door, indulged whilst they are in our care and inspired by what they have experienced by the time they leave. We hope that the exciting food, drink and entertainment combined with our eclectic interiors and stunning roof terraces will make the Oculist a real eyeopener of a pub for the populace of Brighton, one of the savviest and fun loving in the country.”
