Sussex Police have launched an urgent appeal to identify a woman in CCTV images they believed to have witnessed a violent attack against two men in Brighton.

At half past midnight on Thursday 13 September, officers were called to reports of a disturbance outside the Mash Tun pub on Church Street, Brighton.

A 27-year-old man suffered from a broken wrist and a dislocated elbow, and a 23-year-old man who was with him sustained bruising from the attack occurring that night in September.

Detective Constable Simon Rideout said: “Our enquiries are continuing and we are especially interested in talking to this woman who is seen watching the incident.

Police believe the woman in the CCTV images witnessed the attack and may have some vital information about what happened.

DC Rideout also said: “She was dressed in black and was carrying a white shopping bag.”

Police have issued a media appeal to identify the person who carried out the attack.

A 30-year-old Goring man has been interviewed by appointment, under caution, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Please note the black coat seen in the images may appear to be blue, but this is a misleading effect of the lighting – it is believed to be black.

Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 30 of 13/09.
