Following its initial run and receiving 4-star reviews, The Strange Case of Dr Dillon is returning to the stage on 15th February 2025 at The Actors Theatre, Brighton. Brought to life by the breath-taking performances of Cloud Quinn and Kay Elúvian, the play offers audiences a thought-provoking exploration of gender identity and resilience from an all-trans cast and creative team.
Set between the 1920s and 1960s, the play follows Dr Michael Dillon’s journey as the first transgender man to undergo medical transition. In a society far less understanding of transitioning, Dillon’s story reminds us of the courage to be who we are. The performance coincides with LGBT History Month, making it a particularly poignant time to revisit Dr Dillon’s remarkable life.
As trans rights continue to be debated, The Strange Case of Dr Dillon offers a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come – and how far there is still to go.
Previously celebrated by Everything Theatre for its narrative and outstanding performances, the play captivated audiences with Elúvian embodying multiple characters of different genders, and Quinn’s gripping portrayal of Dillon. The play is directed by Cerys Evans, director of Brighton sell-out shows ‘Before The World Ends’, ‘Lucy’s Pharmakon’ and writer of ‘A Trans Fairy Tale’.
Cloud Quinn, actor and writer of The Strange Case of Dr Dillon, said: “it’s an honor to bring Michael’s journey to the stage again and especially during LGBT History Month. As a trans man I feel privileged to be able to share his story.”
Kay Elúvian, actor, said: “Every performance of this play feels like a new journey, a chance to give voice to a story that deserves to be heard. We have previously performed this in London, and we’re delighted to bring it back home to Brighton where it began.”
Director Cerys Evans said: “It’s wonderful to be selected to direct this astonishing play. This isn’t just a performance; it’s a tribute to resilience and innovation. It’s a story that demands to be shared. Cloud and Kay give a tremendous performance and I can’t wait for others to see it.”
