The Town House is a new restaurant with rooms in Arundel, West Sussex. And much needed one too for the town. The creation is from the husband-and-wife team, Matthew and Jennifer Price, The Town House is now officially open following a soft launch period.
Located within a restored Georgian building adjacent to Arundel Castle, The Town House commands an impressive location within this historic market town. An intimate 17 cover restaurant, on entering guests are encouraged to look up courtesy of the 16th-century ceiling above which was originally commissioned in Florence and preserved in the South Downs National Park. Complete with four guest rooms and only an hour from London by train, The Town House is an ideal gourmet retreat.

Determined to maintain a welcoming and hands on approach with a two-person team, Matthew runs the kitchen whilst Jennifer is front of house. A very experienced duo, Matthew was previously head chef of Sorell in Dorking and prior to that led the kitchen at The Vineyard at Stockcross. No stranger to success or Michelin stars, Matthew’s culinary pedigree is reflected across the seven course tasting menu which changes monthly. Jen’s experience includes General Manager at Sorrel and Breakfast Manager at The Pig in the South Downs, and her wealth of wine knowledge enables her to curate perfect wine pairings and likewise the 60 strong wine list.
For summer, Matt has crafted a tasting menu which relies on the best local and national suppliers to create a collection of seasonal dishes which includes the likes of the Nutbourne Tomato Salad with Chalk Springs trout, elderflower, smoked tomato tea and marigold, the Nuthurst Farm Hogget with elephant garlic, girolles, smoked anchovy and bergamot and a Raspberry Ripple for dessert with meadowsweet, peach, white chocolate and lemon verbena. Of course, with any tasting menu, there is an extraordinary and thoughtful wine pairing to go with it.
The four rooms give guests the option of staying a little longer and are designed in keeping with the building’s Georgian heritage. Complete with en suite bathrooms, the Master Bedroom has the addition of a four poster bed as well as peerless view of Arundel Castle beyond.
An eclectic mix of historical interiors combined with a contemporary menu makes The Town House a truly unique spot. Under the attentive ownership of Matt and Jennifer – each brings a specific expertise which ensures The Town House is a place worth travelling to with no hesitation to return.
