We checked in with The Single Sessions, the dating service for Sussex based singles founded by Lyndsey Clay from Connected Brighton and Laura Buckley from Secret Alchemy.
Hello! Tell us about The Single Sessions?
We offer monthly Singles Nights for the over 35s, dating coaching and matchmaking services for Sussex and London singles. We launched in October 2022 and host our events on the first Thursday of each month at The Southern Belle.
What made you create The Single Sessions?
We wanted to offer something different to the dating scene that wasn’t all about finding love, but about finding yourself and discovering how fun single life can be. Helping people meet, have fun and feel good.
Are you single?
Laura is happily married but hated being single and wants to help people find their match. Lyndsey is divorced, loves being single and wants to help people feel good being single.
What makes your Singles Nights different?
Our nights are designed to help you meet other singles, make friends and have fun. It’s not speed dating and it’s not all about finding a match. It’s about being open to meeting new people and seeing where the connections take you.
We always say everyone is a mini matchmaker, someone might not be right for you but you might know someone who could be a great date for them. Plus we get a lot of friendships blossom as you are surrounded by people who get what it’s like being single, it’s quite cathartic!
We host the night at The Southern Belle in their beautiful private Cocktail Bar, we have table games and conversation cards to help get people talking and of course we help to mingle the crowd and make introductions.
How did you two meet?
Laura slid into my DMs to ask about hosting Singles Nights with Connected Brighton. We met, had coffee, loved each other straight away and set up our first Singles Nights in March 2022.
So why set up The Single Sessions?
Connected Brighton is all about friendship and increasing your social circle through bespoke events that support independent businesses. We offer our Social Concierge service to everyone looking to make new connections in the city – all genders, couples and singles.
But people started to think that you had to be single to attend our events because we were hosting Singles Nights. So we decided to split the brand, making it clear that Connected Brighton is friendship focused, The Singles Sessions is dating focused.
Laura tell us about Matchmaking?
Through my business, Secret Alchemy, I offer matchmaking services. Take the pressure out of finding a match by letting me do it for you!
People are so fed up with the apps, meeting people in real life is brilliant but with the pandemic and hybrid working it’s got harder. Hiring me as your matchmaker takes that hard work away as I use my network to find the best matches for you.
And of course everyone that comes to our Singles Nights has the chance to go into my black book for potential matches with my clients.
You mentioned Dating Coaching, tell us about that?
We love helping people find a partner, make healthy choices in relationships to be confident in who they are and what they have to offer. We have 121 or group coaching programs that help to give singles the tools to be happy single and attract the partner right for them.
We also run an evening workshop to help get clarity on your dating goals, it’s always so lovely to see the connections made on these events. People walk in a bit nervous and walk out with a plan of action, new friends and a warm fuzzy feeling. It’s fab!
