Some of the most recognisable costumes on British television have arrived in Brighton. With a week and a half to go before Making the Masked Singer opens at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, the team from Sussex-based Plunge Creations carried their masks across the Royal Pavilion Garden today to start the final installation.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 24 October 2026 and runs until 6 June 2027. It brings together 24 complete costumes and seven individual character heads from seven series of the ITV hit, giving visitors a close-up look at the characters that have entertained, and fooled, millions of viewers.
The Line-Up
Favourites on display include:
- Hedgehog (Jason Manford)
- Fox (Denise van Outen)
- Tree (Teddy Sheringham)
- Badger (Ne-Yo)
- Mushroom (Charlotte Church)
- Pigeon (Katherine Ryan)
- Phoenix (Ricky Wilson)
- Pufferfish (Samantha Barks)
- Dressed Crab (Gregory Porter)
Characters from more recent series are also included: Moth, Conkers and Giant Joel. Individual heads include Unicorn, Bush Baby, Snow Leopard, Fawn, Maypole and Monkey Business.
Behind the Mask
The exhibition also goes beyond the celebrities inside the costumes. For the first time, visitors will see how the costumes are made.
Plunge Creations’ work combines costume-making, sculpture, engineering, prop-making and specialist fabrication. Every design has to look spectacular, be wearable, hide the celebrity inside completely, and still let them sing and move under hot studio lights. The exhibition shows how the team turns a wild idea into something that can survive a live television performance.
Brighton Local Angle
The show is a Sussex success story as well as a TV one. The makers behind one of ITV’s biggest entertainment formats are based in the county, and the exhibition is the first time their workshop process has been shown in public.
It also continues a strong run for Brighton & Hove Museums, following the popular Biba Look photography and fashion exhibition. With an opening date at the start of half-term and a run lasting into summer 2027, it will suit families, as well as costume and design fans and anyone who has shouted a celebrity’s name at the TV on a Saturday night.
