There’s a buzz building around Amelia and The Housewives, and this summer it gets louder. The Brighton indie-pop band — long tipped as one of the city’s brightest new prospects — release their new single Narcissist on 24 July via INH Records, the first taste of a much-anticipated debut album due on 2 October. A run of live dates follows, starting on home turf.
The new single: Narcissist
Billed as a shimmering slice of summer pop, Narcissist is a short, sharp jangle of drums and guitars carried by the chiming harmonies of singers Amelia and Lola. It’s classic Amelia and The Housewives: bright, witty and over before it outstays its welcome — the band famously ask of every track, “how can we make this shorter?” Expect sharp, funny lyrics that name-check everything from Waterstones to a knowing nod to Sandie Shaw, wrapped in the kind of joyous, uplifting pop that has earned the band their reputation. The single lands on 24 July, with the accompanying video already online.
Who are Amelia and The Housewives?
If the name is new to you, you’re not alone — Radio X’s John Kennedy has affectionately dubbed them “Brighton’s best kept secret”. The band came together in 2024 and recorded five songs before ever playing live; Kennedy championed all five on air, and a first show soon followed courtesy of Fierce Panda. Damaged Goods then released their single Maybe as a 7-inch in 2025, two of their tracks were picked up for the BBC’s Fresh Faves, and after a flurry of interest from independent labels the band signed to INH for the album.
Part of their charm is how they work. Many of their songs, the band say, are written on bus and train journeys around Sussex — Narcissist itself reportedly took shape on a hot-day bus ride from Brighton to Eastbourne — earning them the self-deprecating title “the Woody Guthrie of indie-pop.” There’s even a fondly unconfirmed rumour that a certain Beatle once turned up to a show, had a dance and slipped away. True or not, it’s exactly the sort of story that follows a band on the up.

The best way to meet Brighton’s not-so-secret secret is on stage, where they’re always warmly received. Three dates are in the diary:
- 25 July — The Prince Albert, Brighton
- 29 August — The Wake Festival, West Sussex
- 3 October — Album launch show at Daltons, Brighton
With a new single, a debut album and a hometown launch all lined up, this looks like the summer Amelia and The Housewives step out of the shadows. As they put it themselves: the only way is up.
