As the Brighton and Hove Albion has announced this morning, Austrian defender Markus Suttner has signed a three-year deal with the club. The left-back leaves his former club, German FC Ingolstadt 04, to play for the Albion for a reported sum of roughly £3.8 million.

After signing the contract last night, the 30-year-old has joined his new team-mates in their pre-season training camp in Leogang, Austria. The defender has expressed his eagerness to work hard to help establish the team in the Premier League.

“I am always prepared to fight and work hard, and I have been told that team is filled with good characters, who have fought together to achieve what they have and I am really happy to become part of the team. I have a 100% passion for success and want to be a leader on the pitch. I will play how the manager wants me to play. If he wants me to attack then I will and if I have to stay deep, then I will do this. I will do what the manager wants and what the team needs”, Suttner said in an official statement on the club’s website.

The Albion has shown interest in the Austrian player for quite some time, which is why manager Chris Hughton is especially pleased with the newest addition to its evolving Premier League team.

“He has a great level of experience internationally, and in the top divisions in both his native Austria and Germany, where he has played the last two seasons with Ingolstadt, and that experience will serve us well. He will add competition at the back on the left side of defence, and I’m now looking forward to working with him”, the manager said.

Suttner spent the early years of his career playing for Austria Vienna in the Champions League and Europa League before joining Ingolstadt, where he made an important contribution to retaining the club’s place in the German Bundesliga.
