Bonfire Night 2019: 5 Alternatives to Lewes

In case you don’t fancy the crowds at the country’s largest bonfire festival this year, we’ve put together a list of smaller scale, more relaxed alternatives in the Brighton area. 

County Cricket Ground Fireworks, Hove – Tuesday 5th November, 6pm

With music and entertainment, this display is one of the biggest and most spectacular for miles around. The County Ground also has plenty of space, so it shouldn’t feel too crowded.The night supports two fantastic local charities: Martlets Hospice and Sussex Cricket Foundation.

Preston Park Fireworks, Brighton – Friday 1st November, 8pm

This public display returns to Preston Park for another year. There will be a funfair, food and drink from 4pm, with the fireworks starting at 8pm.

This event is free.

 

The Nevill Fireworks, Nevill Avenue, Hove – Saturday 2nd November, 7pm

This family-friendly display is produced by the award-winning team from Brightfire Pyrotechnics, silver medallists in the 2015 British Musical Firework Championships, and is choreographed to a fantastic musical soundtrack. Food stalls will be open all evening, and glow sticks and flashing toys will be on sale at stalls inside the grounds. Some of the money raised on the night will be donated to local charities.

Chailey Bonfire Society Parade and Firework Display, Chailey School – Saturday 9th November, 5pm

One of the oldest societies in Sussex, Chailey Bonfire Society was founded in 1866. Crowds will gather at 5pm at Chailey Comprehensive School for a procession towards the village’s war memorial, where a wreath will be laid to mark Remembrance Day. Situated just a 30 minute drive from Brighton, this picturesque village’s display is family-friendly and full of tradition.

Steyning Fireworks Night – Saturday 9th November, Steyning Primary School, 4.30pm

If you feel like travelling a bit further away from the city, Steyning Fireworks night will be offering live fire performers, a disco tent, mulled wine, boozy hot chocolate, local ales and ciders, hot food and waffles. There will also be plenty of entertainment for children, such as fairground rides and fancy dress.
