Brighton snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against West Ham at a rain-soaked Amex Stadium on Sunday, with Georginio Rutter scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to deny West Ham a big away win Sky Sports. The result left West Ham frustrated after delivering what appeared to be a near-perfect defensive performance for over 90 minutes.
Jarrod Bowen had looked to have nabbed the Hammers the points with an astute sliding finish from an impossible angle  in the 73rd minute. The captain’s goal was a moment of individual brilliance, arriving seconds after substitute Callum Wilson entered the fray. Bowen slid to guide the ball across Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and into the net in one fluid motion, exemplifying West Ham’s clinical counter-attacking approach.
The match was a textbook example of Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactical discipline. West Ham defended in numbers throughout, frustrating Brighton’s possession-based approach. Remarkably, Brighton only had their first shot on target on 89 minutes highlighting the Hammers’ defensive resilience in treacherous conditions.

The drama arrived in stoppage time when chaos erupted in the West Ham box. Rutter’s shot was kept out by Alphonse Areola, but Jan Paul van Hecke kept the ball alive on the byline and gifted possession back to Rutter, who fired a ruthless finish through Areola’s legs Sports Mole. VAR reviewed a possible handball but the goal stood, sparking controversy among the visiting players and staff.
The result maintains Brighton’s impressive record of scoring late goals, while West Ham remain in the bottom three despite an encouraging run of just one defeat in their last six matches. Brighton have now gained 11 points from losing positions this season , showcasing their remarkable resilience.
