Due to start on 24th November, hundreds of artists in Brighton and Hove will open their doors for three consecutive weekends, illuminating the exceptional creative talent the residents of our beautiful city have to offer.

Artists choosing to participate will offer their houses as surrogate art galleries. They will exhibition their work that will be available to view and purchased by members of the public. The festival is an incredibly rare opportunity for people to engage in both artwork and the artist, giving a voice and recognition to the otherwise ‘invisible’ members of the art community.

“Biggest arts festival of its kind in the UK”

It goes without saying that Brighton & Hove is a colourful, vibrant city, full to the brim of overtly creative people. The festival, which runs in both May and the Christmas season, allows artists to exhibit their work in a way that is not usually possible, in non-traditional viewing spaces. It also gives the public a perfect opportunity to engage with other creatives.

Organisers say: “The Christmas Artists Open Houses festival provides a fantastic opportunity to shop away from the High Street and buy unique Christmas gifts to be treasured forever.” If that doesn’t convince you – some houses will even be offering mince pies and mulled wine to accompany your festive gallery experience!

Work featured in the Open Houses is dependant on the medium use of each individual artist. The public can expect jewellery, ceramics and textiles, as well as painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and many other media. “Many visitors buy their first piece of original artwork at an Open House and return year after year.”

Most importantly, organises have stressed that “The Artists Open Houses is an inclusive open-to-all event, welcoming participation from all areas of the community, including community groups, marginalised artists, school and college students; young and old, artists at all stages of their careers.” Also boasting a completely FREE to enter promise, the festival truly is a community event that excels in welcoming all in the lead up to Christmas.
