‘Tis finally the season! Brighton Journal have created the perfect list of festive things to do in Brighton and where to find them this December. Whether its a family friendly market or adults only mulled wine tasting, there is something for everyone to do this Christmas.

1. Ice Skating at Royal Pavilion Ice Rink

Get your skates on at one of the most picturesque ice skating rinks in Sussex! Glide over the ice set against the stunning background of the Royal Pavilion, then warm up rink side with some delicious hot chocolate and festive mulled wine.

2. Enjoy the bar and kitchen in Brighton Music Hall’s Igloos on the beach

Open from 10am each morning, the cosy igloos set on Brighton seafront are a wonderful alternative dining experience for friends and family to enjoy together. Serving delicious festive food and drink with live music from talented local musicians.

3. Watch the spectacular circus show HOME at Brighton Dome

This Christmas, audiences will be treated to HOME, an ingenious new circus show from the trailblazing company of world-class performers, musicians and acrobats behind FLOWN – a huge hit at Brighton Festival 2014 and again at Brighton Dome in 2015.

Tickets: £10-£22.50 – available Saturday 16 – Sunday 23 December.


4. Buy beautiful Christmas gifts in the North Laine

Brighton is the home to hundreds of independent businesses that provide beautiful handmade gifts, artwork, vintage clothing and collectors items, all found in Brighton’s North Laine. Why not head down and allow yourself to get lost in the winding lanes, you’ll never know what treasures you may find to put under the Christmas tree.

5. Visit Santa at Preston Manor

Experience the magic of Christmas at Brighton’s Preston Manor as Father Christmas and his Elf return to Preston Manor for a traditional nostalgic treat for all the family with the added fun of children’s trails and dressing-up!

6. The Burning of the Clocks parade and bonfire

The traditional festival held in Brighton to celebrate the Winter Solstice has become a famous event in Sussex since it began running nearly two decades ago. Wrap up warm and enjoy the electric atmosphere in the streets as the lantern parade begins on 21 December from 6.30pm.

7. Take part in the 5k Santa Dash!

Ho Ho Ho! Is it really December until you’ve watched (or joined in) with Brighton’s annual Santa Dash? Hundreds of runners dressed in santa suits meet at Hove Lawns to compete to be Brighton’s fastest 5k Santa. There is a free children’s 400m race before the main event begins at 10.20am.

8. Visit The Snowman exhibition at Brighton Museum

Discover the magic in this exhibition of the original illustrations for Raymond Briggs’ much loved classic picture book that feature much of our beautiful Brighton! This family friendly activity is free with Brighton Museum entry.

9. Get cosy at Thor’s Tipi bar

This Nordic themed Christmas pop-up in Jubilee Square is the perfect winter wonderland retreat. Cosy up with mulled wine, warm cider, a roaring fire and sweet treats inside a fairy lit cave. Little ones are welcome to enjoy some hot chocolate!


10. Take part in the Christmas Day swim

You might think this is a ludicrous thing to do in the sub zero temperatures of Christmas Day, but many Brightonians love to take part in the Christmas Day swim (or dip). Why not take a break from opening presents and support the brave sea swimmers on this festive morning?
