Brighton & Hove Albion are set to host Wolverhampton Wanderers in a highly anticipated third-round EFL Cup tie at The Amex on Wednesday night, as the Seagulls aim to capture their first-ever major trophy.

Brighton enter this clash on the back of an unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign, although they were frustrated in their recent encounter, drawing 0-0 against newly promoted Ipswich Town despite dominating possession and creating several scoring chances. Currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier League table, Brighton have collected eight points from their first four matches, positioning themselves among the league’s top sides.

The Seagulls, who reached the FA Cup final in 1983, are determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s third-round EFL Cup exit, where they were narrowly defeated by Chelsea. After comfortably dispatching Crawley Town 4-0 in the previous round, Brighton will be keen to build on their strong start in the competition.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, meanwhile, have endured a difficult start to their Premier League season, sitting 18th with just one point after four matches. Gary O’Neil’s side suffered a last-minute 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend, adding to their struggles. However, Wolves booked their spot in the third round of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 win over Burnley, thanks to a brace from Goncalo Guedes.

With their last EFL Cup triumph dating back to 1980, Wolves will be eager to turn their form around and make a deep run in the competition. However, they face a stern test against a Brighton side full of confidence and in search of silverware.
