With the amazing hot summer we have encountered so far this year, and with the summer holidays having just started, there really is no better way to spend your free time than on the beach basking in the sunrays.
Moreover, as an island surrounded by the sea, the UK is spoilt for choice when it comes to glorious coast lines and has a wonderful variety of coastal towns. Whether you’re looking for a classic seaside experience with nostalgic piers and arcades or you’re after a more laid-back, beachy vibe, the UK has a coastal town for every taste.
To help the public decide which coastal location they should visit next, Premier Inn has analysed data from the social media site Instagram to bring to light the the most ‘grammed’ coastal towns in the UK. By looking at the number of hashtags used for every coastal town since the beginning of the year, Premier Inn has identified the top 30 most picturesque coastal places of 2018, according to the photo-sharing app.
Subsequently, from a list containing hundreds of contenders, Premier Inn have gathered the top 30 seaside towns all over the country, from Scotland to Cornwall, naming the list, ‘Top 30 Picture-Perfect Coastal Towns In The UK’.
The images Instagrammed consist of more than just beaches, with the list showcasing coastal towns boasting amazing things to see and do such as pretty views, walks, foodie spots, piers and beach huts.
Impressively our city Brighton in East Sussex, topped the list and one of the cities most popular Instagram images can be seen below:
The other UK’s most popular coastal towns who make up the top five according to Instagram are Bournemouth, Newquay, Southsea and Blackpool, and Dorset was named as the most Instagrammed coastal county with four coastal towns on the list.
Fifth place is seaside resort Blackpool in Lancashire with 26,250 posts, fourth place is historic seaside town Southsea in Hampshire with 26,420 posts, surfer’s paradise Newquay in Cornwall came in third place with 27,480 posts, and the town home to seven miles of sandy beaches rivalling any paradise beach abroad, Bournemouth in Dorset, came second with 62,960 posts.
Fellow East Sussex towns Eastbourne and Hastings just missed out on the top five coming in at 6th and 7th place with 23,250 posts and 22,130 posts respectively.
But it was Brighton who took the number one spot with a staggering 250,035 hashtags in 2018 so far – almost four times as many hashtags as runners up Bournemouth.
