Police have released shocking CCTV footage of a moped driver hitting a nine year old boy on a scooter, before fleeing the scene, in the hope of finding the suspect.
The footage, which can be viewed below, shows the moped rider driving South down Whitehawk Road at approximately 12.15pm on Sunday 16th September, before he collided with the young boy, who was out playing on his scooter. The driver, who was also carrying a passenger, failed to stop at the scene, and left the young boy on the street after hitting him.
The victim was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious head injuries following the incident, where he still remains for treatment.
It is believed that the moped was a stolen vehicle and is described as either being black and silver or dark red, and it is suspected that it will have been damaged as a result of the incident.
Both the police and the victim’s family are naturally very keen to hear from anyone who may be able to assist in locating the suspect. Anyone with any further information on the collision, or the stolen vehicle, is asked to either contact the police online or by calling 101 and quoting serial 502 of 16/09.
