Bus passengers are being urged to familiarise themselves with timetable changes coming in January.

Dozens of routes will have new schedules as the council and operators strive to meet customers’ needs and make more efficient use of vehicles and drivers.

Some services will be more frequent at busy times and less frequent during quiet periods.  There will also be some timetable adjustments to improve reliability.

Changes will mainly affect commercial bus routes operated by Brighton & Hove Buses and Sussex Coaches. But there are also changes to council-subsidised routes run by The Big Lemon including the 16, 16A, 47, 52, 56, 56E, 57, 66.

Customer comments have been taken into account in drawing up new timetables.  The council says it welcomes feedback on proposed changes – or after the new services have started.

Timetables for all services will be published in a new edition of Bus Times, which will be widely available from early January. Full timetables can also be found at www.traveline.info/se or on bus operators’ websites.

Chair of the council’s environment committee Cllr Gill Mitchell said: “Bus services are extremely important and well-used in the city, helping reduce congestion and improve air quality. We want bus users to let us know how they feel services are working so we can maintain them as an attractive transport option. And do please pass on news of the coming changes to fellow passengers.”
