Brighton Pride might still be more than a month away, but there is another celebration with a similar name hitting Brighton this weekend. Described as ‘a day to celebrate cannabis, pride and unity’, Brighton’s Green Pride will once more take over Preston Park.

The Green Pride is the Brighton Cannabis Club‘s annual gathering to protest against the legislation prohibiting the consumption of weed. From 1 pm on Saturday afternoon onwards, consumers and activists are expected to come together for a peaceful protest festival.

They will be joined by a number of businesses, clubs and organisations like the United Kingdom Cannabis Social Clubs or the United Patients Alliance supporting patients whose medical condition might be improved by a regulated use of cannabis.

What started as a little get together of a hundred people back in 2014 has developed to a massive annual gathering with almost 2000 people attending last year. Brighton’s Green Pride is now the second biggest protest meeting of its kind in the UK, only preceeded by the 420 celebration in London’s Hyde Park which has seen a record number of participants back in April this year.

The gathering should only be attended by over 18 year olds and organisers remind dealers that they won’t be tolerated on the grounds.
