Brighton and Hove is subject to a public consultation to review the current wards ahead of the next set of council elections.
The ten-week consultation will involve numerous residents and organisations who will be invited to provide their thoughts and opinions on which locations and communities should be redesignated into new wards.
The process is led by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, who among other cities have designated Brighton and Hove as in need of evaluation of their current structure, 20 years after the current boundaries had been decided and 21 wards created in the city.
One factor, the total of 54 serving councillors throughout Brighton, will remain the same based on current intentions.
The aims of the commission are to get the help and support of the entire Brighton and Hove population to ensure that any new implementations are reflective of the people and society that exists, creating a more effective form of local representation.
Key importance is given to ensuring that any decision will be easy to understand and provide convenience to local people, which is why the use of residents, local associations and other figures will be crucial in providing guidance so that the commission can fully appreciate the culture and identity of the community throughout the entire process.
Final proposals from the independent commission will be reviewed before then being submitted to parliament, where once approved will then be implemented throughout Brighton and Hove in preparation for these new electoral wards then holding elections in 2023 to decide their representatives.
