The need for a new goal threat has only appeared to grow following the loan departure of Florin Andone to Cadiz.

Andone has struggled since joining the Premier League outfit, yet despite his history of injuries and lack of regular playing time, there was still the possibility that he might get an opportunity to prove himself considering the current need.

Despite this, his season long loan looks set to turn permanent should he impress in La Liga.

An even greater cause for concern is the rumoured interest in Neal Maupay, Brighton’s current main attacking threat.

Reports state that Everton and Rafa Benitez have interest in trying to lure the Frenchman up north as they look to reshape their squad.

Fans will be comforted by the fact that with Financial Fair Play rules in operation, the Merseyside outfit would have to move players out first before being able to make an offer, and also having other positional needs.

Maupay’s contract also still has two years to run, and with any offer needing to eclipse the £20 million spent on the player in 2019, it looks likely he will stay at the AMEX until at least January.

On top of this, Percy Tau also looks set to join Egyptian side Al-Ahly, whilst Danny Welbeck is also side lined with a hamstring problem.

Such speculation leaves it almost imperative for Graham Potter to add some competition to the ranks, with rumours around Benfica striker Darwin Nunez still lingering as the Portuguese side look to balance their books.

The 22-year-old would command a club record £25 million fee, which will be more than worth the expenditure should he be able to build on his previous 14 goal and 12 assist season, with the lack of clinical finishing a key factor behind Brighton’s struggle with relegation last season.
