According to recent research, the city of Brighton and Hove has seen a significant rise in the number of recorded births since the beginning of the Covid pandemic.
Measuring over a period of nine months, spanning from December 2020 to July 2021, the number of births rose by 39 per cent when measured in comparison to the same period of time in 2019 and 2020.
With people restricted to living at home, spending more time with their partners and being closer than ever, the opportunity for intimacy has translated into the creation of new family units.
The most popular birth month was July 2021, with this recorded as the peak, while 3,500 new births occurred in the nine-month timespan.
The most common birthday for the new babies was 25th May, with that correlating well to the actual start of the second lockdown.
From a nationwide standpoint, key dates in the lockdown calendar commonly and unsurprisingly correlate with the rise in birth rate.
March 2020 saw the start of the first lockdown, and subsequently there was 47,823 babies born in December 2020, with the same situation occurring in January 2021 when 47,500 births were recorded.
Looking back, it is considered one of the more positive outcomes and experiences of the Covid pandemic as many new parents emerge from a tough time with a better, more exciting future than the one they had previously.
