The “Eat out to help out” scheme came into affect this morning with over 72,000 restaurants, cafes and pubs all offering 50% discount between Monday and Wednesday’s only throughout the month of August.Written By Nicola Wright

Put into affect by Chancellor Rishi Sunak, which has been given the name “Rishi’s Dishes” was created to help and give back to the nation due to the recent global and financial events that have taken place.

Big branded chains such as McDonalds, Nando’s and for coffee lovers Costa Coffee and Starbucks, to name just four on the list of big branded names who are all onboard with this scheme, with the presence of various Michelin star restaurants who have also decided to participate.

In the light of recent events this offer is to encourage people to get out and socialise, more so then what people have done and been able to do in recent months and to slowly encourage the nation to ease back into the new normality.

There has been a slight backlash however in regards to the government’s efforts in encouraging the nation to seek a healthier lifestyle with the prospect now that it will or is showing to be encouraging the opposite effect.

It has also attracted speculation that it potentially could lead to a further financial crisis for the government as the hospitality sector has seen a shut down for many months with thousands being placed under the government furlough scheme. With the new restrictions in place the hospitality sector have had to limit covers due to social distancing guidelines and increase on the prices slightly in order to gain back into their business.

Everyone is eligible for the scheme and is affective throughout, when receiving the final bill you will see the discount has already been applied at whichever outlet you are in, but make sure to look up the list of local restaurants that are involved in the scheme which can show up to two mile radius of your current location; you check the  list via this link https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/eat-out-to-help-out/find-a-restaurant

However please be aware it does not include discount on any alcoholic beverages or any additional service charges where fees may apply. And only applies on eating within the premises not on takeout options.

Its time to enjoy some food!
