During the Edinburgh International Festival, which is taking place in August, it will be possible to see the premiere of “FLIT”, a multimedia show created by some of the most influential musicians on the contemporary scene.
The minds behind the show were put together by Martin Green, visionary Lau’s accordionist, who reached out to Adrian Utley, from Portishead, Mogwai’s Dominic Aitchison, Becky Unthank from The Unthanks, and BAFTA-winning animators Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson, also known as whiterobot. The performance will include dark atmospheric songs and breath-taking stop motion animations, together with an important exploration of a controversial and powerful theme: migration.
As said by Martin Green, he started to collect memories about migrations from his Grandmother, and was inspired by those to go deeper in the global phenomenon; he went on putting together first-hand heartbreaking stories and bringing them to life with his collaborators, his “dream team” composed by a wide range of talented artists.
Original music by Green features lyrics from Karine Polwart, Anaïs Mitchell, Sandy Wright and Aidan Moffat; the songs are performed by Becky Unthank and Adam Holmes.
After the opening at the Edinburgh International Festival, “FLIT” will tour during October and November 2016 in Gateshead, Buxton, Bristol, London, Poole, Leeds, Brighton and Shetland.
