When the weather is as amazing as it was during the last couple of days, there is only one place to head to in Brighton! What better way is there to spend a sunny day than heading down to the beach to go for a swim or to bathe in the sun.
Just lying around doing nothing can, however, get a bit boring after a while. Here are our suggestions for you how to break up your lazy beach routine!
Who can get the highest rock tower?
The lack of sand on Brighton’s beaches rules out pretty much any sort of sand castle building activities, but there are tons of something other than sand that you can find here, the rocks! Have you ever tried stacking them up to build a tower of rocks? Turn it into a challenge and see who manages to get their tower higher before it collapses!
Catch a towel before they do!
If you know the game musical chairs, it’s not hard to come up with a modified version to take down to the beach. Spread out your towels in a reasonable distance one from another. Make sure to have one less than there are players and then let the chase begin.
Dance around the towels as long as the music plays. As soon as it stops, rush to one of the towels before the others do. Who doesn’t get a towel to sit on is out. Continue by reducing the number of towels by one each time. The winner is the one who manages to stay in the game until the end.
Turn your best friend into a mermaid!
At one point in our life, we probably all have buried one of our friends in the sand, only having their head sticking out. Here is a funny alternative that involves less digging and will have you get creative at the same time! Let them lie down in the sand in a pose that is comfortable for them and just shape a mermaid tail around their legs. Mermaid, octopus, superman… whatever you choose to shape around them, the photos will be really cool!
Alternative for Brighton beaches: Simply shape a mermaid tail with the rocks. If you do it well, the rocks may even look like proper scales!
Time to get low!
Limbo is always a popular activity at parties. So why not create a beachy version of it? A towel, a boat oar, or a pool noodle can quickly transform into a limbo bar. Bring some speakers and your phone and put on some hot beach tunes and let the challenge begin! Lean back and dance under the ‘bar’. Who can get down the lowest?
Watch out not to spill it!
This fun beach game only works when you are there in a big group. Stand behind each other in two lines a couple of metres from the shoreline. Each team needs a bucket (or a disposable plastic cup). On the starting signal, the first one in the line has to run down to the water and fill the bucket before running back towards the team. Turning your back to the next one in line, you have to pass on the water bucket above your head to the person behind you. Hurry up to be faster than the other team but watch out not to spill it on your own head!
