As a Student you may be feeling the burn around this time of year. Our last loan came in months ago and with putting down deposits on new places to rent, and trying to keep up with our friends who have jobs, it can feel rough especially when you are getting to the end of your overdraft and have no food in your cupboards.
We are here to help by suggesting some ideas which will keep you on a low budget and hopefully from withering away…

Eggs –
Eggs are such a great option, they are cheap and can be made into all sorts of things; omelette, scrambled eggs, fried egg, or if you have some flour and some milk you can make pancakes! They are high in protein and a healthy source of fat.

Jacket Potatoes –
Jacket potatoes are filling, hot and versatile. You can usually buy a bag for under a pound or buy them individually from a local grocer very cheaply. Jacket potatoes can be eaten with tuna and sweetcorn, baked beans, cheese or salad!

Vegetarian –
Trying out more veggie recipes might be a good idea because meat can be expensive. How about a vegetable stir fry?

Meat –
Buy meat that can be used in multiple different meals, like minced turkey can be used for chilli, or to go on top of your jacket potato or in a spaghetti bolognese, even in a shepards pie.

Breakfast –
Breakfast can be expensive but toast or oatmeal/porridge is a cheap and filling option that releases energy slowly to help you last all day.

Pasta –
Pasta with pesto or chopped tomatoes is extremely inexpensive. Or you could opt for a pasta bake which will last you for more than one meal. Things which make good leftovers or can serve as more than one meal are ideal.

Soup –
Easy vegetable soups can be made from scratch or they are pretty cheap to buy in a tin these are warm and perfect for lunches.

Rice –
Rice lasts for a long time, you can make meals like fried rice which uses frozen vegetables egg and some soy sauce and you have a tasty meal.
A top tip is to also look at food in the reduced section of the supermarket. If you go later at night more food will be reduced as they just want to get rid of it.
