Girls in Brighton and Hove can try the world’s fastest-growing sport for free this autumn. Game4Padel has teamed up with Brighton & Hove City Council’s Healthy Living team to run free padel lessons for girls in the run-up to Christmas.
The sessions take place at Game4Padel’s courts at Withdean Sports Club and are open to girls aged [age range]. They run [days and times] until [end date], and no experience or equipment is needed.
Closing the Gender Gap
Padel has exploded in popularity across Britain, with new courts opening in towns and cities across the country. But women and girls are being left behind. Recent figures from the Lawn Tennis Association show that only around 30% of UK padel players are female.
The initiative aims to change that by giving girls a relaxed, welcoming way to try the sport, build confidence and stay active. With no cost and no pressure, it removes many of the barriers that can put young people off joining a new sport.
Why Padel?
Often described as a cross between tennis and squash, padel is played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court. The walls are part of the game, rallies are long, and most beginners are hitting the ball confidently within their first session. That makes it one of the easiest racket sports to pick up, and one of the most sociable.
Brighton Local
The partnership is part of the council’s wider Healthy Living work to help residents of all ages be more active. It follows a growing push across the city to make sport and activity more accessible, from the Albion’s match-day partnership with Guide Dogs to the latest wellness walking trends. It also comes as the council invests in local businesses, including its new campaign promoting Sussex food and drink.
