Amber Run with Haus and Bess Atwell

Amber Run hit Brighton on Monday night following the very recent release of their new EP ‘The Assembly’. The band from Nottingham sprung to fame with their indie EP ‘5AM’ in 2014. After a few rocky years with their drummer leaving on undisclosed reasoning, being dropped from their label and a lack of enthusiasm in their own writing they’re back and better than ever! Catch them at The Green Door Store wih Haus and Bess Atwell. Tickets are £15 advance.

Khanyisa

Headlining The Gladstone’s now infamous Open Mic is Khanyisa. Hailing from a small town in Essex the soulful singer-songwriter creates a truly unique sound, blending soul, jazz, funk and folk into her own eclectic genre. StrungOut said “her lyrics and rhythmical guitar riffs exude tenderness, sincerity and sass leaving the audience uplifted and inspired”. Head down early to catch the most of the open mic!

GN X FON: Free Alternative Escape Show with Abattoir Blues, Kaputt and More

We’ve already done a run-down of the best acts at the official Great Escape but there’s also a plethora of Alt-Alt Escape shows going on. A few years ago the people at The Great Escape began to put on free shows for the public to attend without an official ticket. Brighton promoters soon caught on and took the matter into their own hands by putting on their own showcases of local talent. This year Gob Nation and Freak of Nature are teaming up to bring some of the best in post-punk, punk and indie to The Richmond. Running from 2pm til 6:30, local legends ‘Abattoir Blues’, Glasgow’s own ‘Kaputt’, BN1 oi punk front-runners ‘Gutter Knife’ and many more will take the stage. Not one to miss if you’re intrigued by the underground cultures in Brighton. It’s free too so just rock up and rock out…

Killing Moon X LAB Alternative Escape Stage

On the second day of The Great Escape there’s more to do than perhaps any other Friday of the year. It was near-impossible to narrow down the ‘best’ gig happening but the much-loved Hockey Dad are playing a free show on Friday night at The Hub and it’s just too exciting to not mention! Australian best-mates Hockey Dad have a cult-following for their surf-inspired indie rock. With 300,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and sold-out shows nearly every where they play in Europe get down early to ensure your spot!
