Happy Friday everybody! We bet you can’t wait for five o’clock to come around to leave your desks and head off into your well-deserved weekends! Weekends are admittedly the best time of the week to kick back and relax but don’t take it too easy as there are some great parties and loads of other cool stuff going on in Brighton this weekend!

Friday – Othello @ Brighton Open Air Theatre
Hove-based theatre company SISATA has adapted Shakespeare’s masterpiece ‘Othello’ in a way that you have never seen it before. Appealing to all your senses, the production is inspired by the 80s hip-hop culture and the life and work of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Doors open at 6 pm tonight at Brighton’s Open Air Theatre, Dyke Road Park, Hove BN3 6EH. The show starts at 7 pm. There will be additional shows running tomorrow at 2 pm and at 7 pm.

Friday – Summer Beer Festival @ The Brunswick Pub
Among all the events taking place at the Brunswick Pub throughout the year, the annual summer beer festival surely takes on a special place. 18 casks of different ales, several kegs of craft beers and ciders are waiting to be emptied by thirsty beer lovers. The event also features an entire line-up of live music acts every afternoon and a variety of bbq dishes prepared by The Gorilla Grill & BBQ.
The event starts today at 5 pm and will run until Monday night at the Brunswick Pub, 1 Holland Rd, Hove BN3 1JF. Entry is free.

Friday – Love2 Mark Wright DJ Set @ PRYZM
Having become a famous TV and radio presenter/DJ, Mark Wright will be on the decks at PRYZM tonight to celebrate the launch of the club’s new Tiki inspired bar. As for every Friday Love2 party at the club, there will be professional dancers, stilt walkers, confetti canons and a laser show. On three different floors, expect to hear all the big House, Dance, Club and Disco anthems.

Friday – Fleetwood Mac Party @ Komedia
Fleetwood Mac are probably one of the world’s greatest bands ever. To celebrate the anniversaries of their albums ‘Rumours’ and ‘Tango In The Night’, Komedia Brighton is holding a special Fleetwood Mac party bringing you a great selection of their most famous songs as well as other amazing tunes from the 70s and 80s. Guests are welcome to dress up in their favourite 80s outfits.

Saturday – Gin Festival @ Hilton Brighton
If you are a gin fan, then this event is for you. No less than 120 different types of gin will be there for you to try this Saturday when the Gin Festival comes to Brighton for the first time. Other than the tasting, there will be talks, presentations and live entertainment.
The event runs from 12 pm to 11 pm on Saturday at the Hilton Brighton, King’s Road, Brighton BN1 2FU. Tickets need to be purchased in advance and give access to one of the two visitor slots (12 pm – 5 pm or 6 pm – 11 pm).

Saturday – Patchfest @ William Clarke Park
Live music, DJs, market stalls, loads of food, a big beer tent…this year’s Patchfest promises loads of entertainment and a good chance to catch up with your neighbours when you live in the area around Lewes Road and Elm Grove. Taking place once a year, this free community festival is a celebration of local life.
Runs from 1 pm to 9 pm on Saturday in the William Clarke Park, aka the Patch.

Saturday – Outdoor Cinema @ Preston Manor
As part of their outdoor screening series, Duke of Yorks and Dukes at Komedia will show the coming-of-age drama “Stand By Me” outside Preston Manor. Grab a blanket and get ready to follow the narrative of an author about an adventurous boyhood journey to find the dead body of a missing schoolboy.
Doors open at 7 pm on Saturday at the Preston Manor, Preston Park. Get there early to save yourself some deckchairs. The screening will start around 9.15 pm.

Saturday – Soulful Strut @ Green Door Store
Twice a month, Brighton’s popular music venue turns into a dope-vibed party venue. For this edition of their famous ‘Soulful Strut’ club night, well-known DJ/broadcaster Russ Dewbury will be joined by Melbourne DJ Mike Gurrieri and live percussionist Tim ‘Bongo’s’ Mercer. Get ready for a hot and sweaty night on the dance floor of one of Brighton’s best-known soul music themed club nights.
Doors open at 11 pm tomorrow night at the Green Door Store, Lower Goods Yard, Brighton Train Station, Brighton BN1 4FQ. Entry is free but venue might fill up quickly.

Sunday – Flit, Flap & Fly @ William Clarke Park
What is the daily life of a bird family like? Joining Daddy bird and chicken in their nest, the audience will witness the young bird’s first attempts to fly and follow him on his journey to independence. The performance is aimed at young audiences and their parents.
The show runs at The Patch (William Clarke Park) on Sunday at 11.30 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. Entry is free.

Sunday – Bird Studios Summer Showcase @ The Old Market
Head down to The Old Market to see what dance and theatre students at Brighton’s Bird Studios are up to. Showcasing a large number of performances of different dance styles and other activities, the event promises to be an enjoyable event for people of all ages.
The show runs from 5pm till 9 pm on Sunday at The Old Market, Upper Market St, Brighton BN3 1AS. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Bird Studios reception.
