As part of the £5.1 million Stanmer Park restoration project, that began on Monday the 24th of June, the council are asking for volunteers to help explore and record the history of the park.
They are searching for ten Oral History Volunteers to document captivating stories about the history of Stanmer Park. The volunteers’ role will be to record people’s feelings towards the park, attitudes to the landscape, and stories of the people who have been a part of the area. The volunteers will also be asked to assist public drop-in “Memory Days”. These “Memory Days” will engage with local people and encourage people to share stories or objects that are relevant to the park past or present.
As part of the Stanmer Park Restoration Project’s Activity Plan, the chosen volunteers will be trained, and have the opportunity to learn interviewing techniques and recording processes.
Councillor Anne Pissadirou, who is the chair of Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee has said:
“Stanmer Park is very well loved by so many of our residents, including my own family, and I’m sure there are many interesting stories to be shared.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in the park and its history to consider becoming one of our ten volunteers and help us to capture and document these personal memories for future generations.”
