James Barr – comedian, presenter, award-winning podcaster and host of the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, is bringing  his emotionally charged LGBTQ+ stand-up show Sorry I Hurt Your Son (Said My Ex to My Mum), to The Lantern in Brighton on 25th and 26th April, following successful runs at Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals.

The show explores James’s personal experience as a survivor of domestic abuse in a queer relationship and the title comes from his ex’s final words to his mother – “Sorry I Hurt Your Son” – written in a Christmas card. Blending sharp comedy with brutal honesty, James provides a fresh perspective on an often-overlooked issue and hopes to give a voice to those who are experiencing or might experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.

From Edinburgh & Adelaide Fringe Festivals

“It’s almost shameful that Barr should mercilessly and incessantly joke about domestic violence for almost fifty minutes, and even worse that we the audience should laugh at it. But that’s exactly what happens: Barr does it so well and we laugh and laugh”
★★★★ The Barefoot Review Australia

“Confronting and funny… A burgeoning storyteller” ★★★★ The List

“It’s fascinating to watch someone break the rules of their chosen craft and succeed.”
