Humans Of Brighton – Meet Passionate Writer Eleesha!

Hi Eleesha, nice to meet you. Where are you from?

I come from Eastbourne which is like an hour and a half away on the bus. Obviously, Brighton is like the better version of Eastbourne. I mean, it is a pleasant place but there definitely is a lot more happening in Brighton. Unfortunately, I am just over here for the day because I have had a course with my job.

What is your job?

I am really happy about it. It is a job as a content writer for a web design company. I hate computers and stuff but I really enjoy the writing side of the job. The course I have had today was all about digital media and marketing. We were doing logos and all that and it was really good.

Although it has had to do with computers?

Yeah, because I like the writing and I think that nowadays when you want to get into writing, you just have to know how to make use of a computer properly, as everything is going online these days.

So, what do you write about?

Well, everything they tell me to basically. Some of it is fun, some of it is not so fun. But when you’re learning, it’s just good to practice. And then in my free-time, I do a little bit of blogging, I have always kept a journal and sometimes, I also try to write lyrics.

What is it about writing that you enjoy so much?

Well, it’s definitely not my hand-writing. That hasn’t improved since I left year 5. I don’t know really… it’s good to just express yourself. It’s really freeing. I think when things are thought about and written down, things just come out better. When you want to say something to someone, like something powerful and important, it comes out better when you write it.

Do you think you will ever end up as a professional writer?

I don’t know. I have never been a career-minded person. And I have only just had this job as a content writer for a couple of months. But I really like it so far. It feels like I have fallen into the right job. But I don’t know if I could do a career in writing. If I could write something that is really beneficial to the people and that is really important to share, maybe. But on the other hand, if I wrote a book about something like that, I don’t know if people would ever read it. I have never gone public with personal stuff that I have written, out of the fear that people wouldn’t like it.

Have you got any other special plans for the future then?

I have only just come to the realization that we don’t stay young forever. I am 24 now and I am starting to freak out about that a little. But I would definitely like to travel, I want to have a family, I want to live somewhere that is just surrounded by trees, maybe in Canada. That is sort of what I want. But for now, I am just glad about how things are. 2017 has been a very good year for me so far, I have got that job and I have stopped drinking which has been the best experience in my life.

Oh wow, congratulations! How long have you been sober for?

I have done ninety-two days so far and I continue trying not to drink. I have to say I miss it but I want to continue.

I wish you all the best for your future and I hope that things continue going so well for you.
