Brighton based stag-do organisers The Stag Company have announced that they will be bringing the iconic ‘El Capitan’ mural, featuring ex-Brighton and Hove Albion star Bruno Grau, back to a wall in the city.

Earlier this year, the mural was removed from the wall of Gelato Gusto in North Laine, much to the dismay of Albion fans like Stag Company CEO Rob Hill:

“I was deeply upset when the mural was taken down. Bruno is a Brighton and Hove Albion legend and is one of the best players to have ever graced the blue and white stripes. He played over 200 games for Brighton, was a great Captain and leader and deserves to be recognised for everything he has done for the club.”

In response, Hill was prompted to launch a campaign to #BringBrunoBack, and is now on the hunt for a budding artist and devoted Albion fan to design a new mural. The winning design will be painted on a prominent wall in the city by renowned Brighton graffiti artist Glimmertwin.

The iconic mural was replaced by this abstract piece earlier this year.

Owing to his big beard, hard tackling, and bursting runs from right-back, Bruno earned something like cult status amongst fans during his 7 years at Albion. He retired aged 38 at the end of the 2019 season, having captained the club to the Premier League in 2017. He has given his support to the campaign to bring his mural back, saying:

“I am very proud that so many fans want to commemorate my time at BHA and I can only repeat what I said to them when I retired – Once a seagull, always a seagull!”.
