Last Friday (21 June 2019) eighteen people celebrated the longest day of the year by taking part in a 450ft drop from the i360, all in the name of charity.
The event, named iDrop, took place at sunset and raised money for Rockinghorse, a local children’s charity, best known for being the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and a vital supporter of the neighbouring Trevor Mann Baby Unit.
The 18 brave members of the public each waited for their turn to dive, and collectively the raised £11,000 to support young people with mental health illnesses.
The challenge was fun, exciting and exhilarating. The only scary moment was letting go to get out of the pod at 450ft high, but I enjoyed the ride down on what was a beautiful evening in my beloved city of Brighton. It was made more special by my cheerleaders who saw me off, whooped and cheered as I did my best Bridget Jones and then welcomed me back onto solid ground.

To organise this charity event, the charity Rockinghorse partnered with Chalkhill Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit in Haywards Heath, the only mental health inpatient unit for young people in Sussex. The money collected during this event will fund activities planned throughout 2019 and next year.
What a fantastic effort from our iDrop participants, I am so proud of what they have achieved. Not only did they take on the dizzy heights of the challenge, but they have gone above and beyond to raise funds for our project at Chalkhill. Their sponsorship will make such a big difference to young people receiving treatment there.

The Rockinghorse Activities Programme has been running alongside the educational programme at Chalkhill, and it is a vital part of young people’s recovery journey. The programme includes activities on and off site, as well as providing new opportunities and time away from the unit.
