Over 500 children and adults attended Brighton and Hove’s fourth Kidical
Mass family-friendly bike ride on Sunday 27 April 2025.

The record breaking number of riders for Kidical Mass in our city were
calling for safer and better connected cycling infrastructure.

Kidical Mass is about fun, and is also a protest ride calling for
investment to make the city healthier and greener through more protected
cycle routes.

Duncan Blinkhorn, from Brighton Bike Hub, said “We are delighted to see
the recent improvements to the cycle lane on Preston Road and finally
that Valley Gardens Phase 3 is underway. These provide long-awaited and
vital links to help thousands of riders to navigate the city safely.”

Iliana Koutsou from Bricycles said “New cycle lanes open up the option
of cycling for many new people. We need more cycle lanes beyond the city
centre so everyone who wants to can get around by bicycle”

The ride was fully marshalled, free to join and open to everyone –
children, families, friends and adults without children.

There were five feeder rides starting at 2pm in separate corners of the
city – Black Rock, The Level, Preston Park, Hove Park and  Wish Park.
These rides converge on the seafront at the Peace Statue, following
which there was a big circular ride through the city centre.

Kidical Mass in Brighton & Hove is organised by local cycling groups
Bricycles, Brighton Bike Hub, Brighton Multicultural Women’s Cycle Club
(The BMWs), Clean Air for Brighton & Hove, and Old Shoreham Road (OSR)
Bike Train, with funding from Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival.

The ride proceeded at a gentle pace to ensure no one is left behind.

Volunteers are essential to the success of the event. If you would like
