Komedia – home to roaring club nights, laugh-out-loud comedy, and popular spoken-word events – has once again scooped the prestigious Chortle award for ‘Best Venue’ in the South.

An industry ceremony on Monday (20 March) saw the much-loved venue claim the title for a record-breaking 14th time, along with the award for ‘Best Club’ for their monthly, gay-friendly comedy club Bent Double.

The winners were announced at Up the Creek Comedy Club in London, in an evening hosted by Clive Anderson. The star-studded ceremony was attended by Vic Reeves, The Jump’s Amy Willerton, and Megan Mckenna from Towie and Ex on the Beach.

Komedia’s managing director and founder, Colin Granger, said: I’m thrilled that Komedia has been voted best venue in the South for the fourteenth time, it’s a real honour. A big thank you has to go to our amazing comedy audience who support us year-round, Stephen Grant and the Krater Comedy Club, and the hundreds of acts we have every year.

“Thanks also to our team here at Komedia and of course everyone who voted for us, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

This is the third time Bent Double has bagged the ‘Best Club’ award. Zoe Lyons started the night over ten years ago and has seen it grow to be one of the most successful the venue runs.

Zoe, who was thrilled to win once again, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Bent Double has once again been voted best club night in the South. The night’s success is due to the continued loyalty of the “up for it” crowds who come along each month, the acts who thrive in the atmosphere and the fabulous staff at Komedia. It’s a team effort and a joy to be part of. Huge thanks to everyone who voted.”

Other winners included Komedia favourite Romesh Ranganathan, Fleabag, and I’m A Celebrity’s Joel Dommett.

Winners were voted for in an online poll of six thousand comedy fans, from a shortlist chosen by independent industry experts – so the awards are an extremely credible indicator of the best entertainment venues in the UK. This year’s awards have doubtless cemented Komedia’s reputation as one of the top venues in the UK to see big names, as well as up-and-coming comedians.
