Ten Local Will writers offer expertise in return for donation to Martlets
Martlets, is holding their annual Will Writing Month in May and this is the last week to make a booking to get your Will written. Ten local solicitors are supporting Martlets by offering their services for free in return for a donation to the charity. These donations will help Martlets provide life-changing care for local people affected by terminal illness and their families
Planning for the future and having a Will offers peace of mind and reassurance for people and their loved ones. Martlets’ Will Writing Month is an opportunity to have a professionally written Will that enables people to look after their family and loved ones when they die. A Will also ensures that a person’s wishes are followed making things much easier for loved ones at a difficult time. Having a Will is particularly important for parents, cohabiting partners, those in a civil partnership or those with dependents that can’t care for themselves, it could also mean dependants pay less inheritance tax.
Christy, from Brighton and her husband made a Will during Martlets’ Will Writing Month, even though they are still young and in good health.
“Me and Kev had got to a point where it was a sensible move for us to write a Will. It was just after we’d bought a house together and we’d been married a couple of years.
“My mum had cancer and was cared for by Martlets in Hove. We used so many different services that they were able to offer mum and they also really supported me as her carer. They were amazing and came out and looked after mum at home. We wanted to give something back as a thank you. When Martlets Will Writing Month came around in May we decided to get involved. It seemed like a great opportunity to write our Wills and help out a worthy cause.
“Some of our friends were shocked that we had written a Will already as we were younger than a lot of people are when they get round to writing one. I feel it’s important to look at the bigger picture and get that stuff in place should something happen.”
Bookings can be made until 29 April 2022 for a donation to Martlets of £150 for a single will or £200 for a joint will. Making an appointment is simple, just head to www.martlets.org.uk/give-in-your-will and choose from one of the available solicitors.
