There are few artists whose name alone is enough to fill a venue. Morrissey is one of them. The Brighton Centre will welcome the former Smiths frontman on Sunday 6th December 2026, with tickets going on sale this Friday — and if history is any guide, they will not be around for long.
For those who need no introduction, this is still a moment worth marking. For those who came to Morrissey through the Smiths — through the jangling guitars of Johnny Marr and those extraordinarily particular lyrics about suburban longing, alienation and English melancholy — and for those who discovered him through his solo catalogue, a Brighton date is always something to plan around.
The Manchester-born singer emerged as the frontman and lyricist of the Smiths in 1982, and the band’s four studio albums — culminating in 1987’s Strangeways, Here We Come — remain among the most influential records in British music history. When the Smiths dissolved that same year, few expected Morrissey’s solo career to match the cultural weight of what came before. Four decades on, the argument is that it has.
His debut solo album Viva Hate arrived in 1988 and reached number one in the UK. What followed was a body of work that has included Vauxhall and I — widely regarded as one of the great British albums of the 1990s — alongside You Are the Quarry, Ringleader of the Tormentors and Years of Refusal. His most recent album, I Am Not a Dog on a Chain, released in 2020, demonstrated that his capacity for melodic invention and pointed lyrical observation has not dimmed.
Live, Morrissey remains a singular experience. Shows are theatrical, impassioned and unpredictable — built around a band that knows how to build a wall of sound beneath a voice that has changed remarkably little in forty years. Brighton audiences have a well-earned reputation for giving artists the reception they deserve, and December at the Brighton Centre, with Morrissey on stage, is the kind of evening that people talk about for years
Tickets are priced from £58.50 and go on sale Friday 22nd May 2026 at 9am via the Brighton Centre box office at www.brightoncentre.co.uk.
