There was no spare seat left yesterday evening in front of the huge LED screen on the Marina Square where spectators were enjoying a live screening of the famous opera ‘La Traviata’. It was the first Royal Opera House live screening planned in the course of the Big Beach Screen Events running in Brighton’s Marina for the first time this year.
Until the 16th of July, tennis fans and opera lovers can follow breath-taking Wimbledon matches and stunning live opera performances on the big screen in the Marina Square, accompanied by strawberries and cream. The entry to the events is free.
This Sunday will see a family movie day with screenings of Frozen, The Lion King, and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. Also on the menu for the smaller movie fans: a kids club and some morning screenings of CBeebies.
The next important date for opera lovers to remember is the 14th of July when the big screen will once again transform into an opera stage showing the Royal Opera House’s production of Puccini’s final masterpiece ‘Turandot’. With amazing compositions such as the great tenor aria ‘Nessun Dorma’, this dark exotic fantasy will take spectators straight back to ancient China.
Being well known for their annual open air cinema on Brighton’s Beach, Big Beach Screen Events are screening live in the marina for the first time. Managing Director Bill Murray said: “We are extremely excited about running Wimbledon, The Royal Opera House live operas and our family movies at Brighton Marina. It has always been an aim of ours to extend into other areas and the Marina ticks all the boxes.”
For those who want to have the open air screen experience while getting comfortable in bed, there will be a VIP SweetBed Experience featuring state-of-the-art bed with a cocooning duvet and pillow, a high-tech mattress and flexible base.
