In 1969 and 1970, Plumpton Racecourse hosted one of the great forgotten festivals of the British counterculture. The names on those bills — Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, Ginger Baker — represent the full force of the era. The festival was forced to relocate, eventually becoming the Reading Festival. Plumpton’s chapter was largely forgotten.
