Even with Antonio Conte confirmed as the new Tottenham manager, the rumours continue to run rampant as to the future of Brighton boss Graham Potter with every managerial vacancy that becomes available.
There was speculation back in the summer before the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo that there was overtures made towards Potter, who has repeatedly shown no signs of having bigger aspirations at the current time.
A reported issue back then, which may still relate now was the fact that the Brighton manager did not even want the job due to the apparent belief that working for chairman Daniel Levy would ruin his reputation.
There is no reported issues between managers and the Tottenham chairman, just that his difficult negotiation policy for transfers and also the fact that he is known for firing managers easily, shown by Nuno’s ten game streak, means that Potter would prefer a role like his current position that guarantees a better level of stability.
In his current position, he finds himself continuing the incredible run of form that has been there since the start of the season, with last weekend’s draw at Liverpool showing just how effective and tactically adept the manager can be against the bigger teams.
While there is no rush to make his next move, there is obvious nerves from the AMEX stadium as with the team so high in the current standings, there will only be more interest to come for a manager who can take a team from 17th and make them actively dream of a possibility of European football next season.
Talk has also turned to the possibility that Potter may actually be a candidate for the England national team, with Gareth Southgate in charge until the next major international campaign, should he decide to leave the role, then a young and hungry manager looking to boost his reputation may be a top choice for the country’s biggest managerial role.
