On Saturday 28th September, Brighton Open Air Theatre will be hosting Sleepout for The Sanctuary to raise money for The Clock Tower Sanctuary. This event promises storytelling, songs and sunset yoga, as well as a memorable night’s sleep under the stars.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary
Brighton’s only day centre for homeless 16-25 year-olds aims to use this event to raise awareness of the increasing number of young homeless people in Brighton. Since January 2019, The Sanctuary have seen 91 new young people using their services. In the previous year there was 77. Budget cuts and changes to universal credit in recent years have made it even more difficult for vulnerable young people to get support.
The Sanctuary receives no statutory funding, and 50% of their income comes from money raised by events such this. In light of this, it is important that The Sanctuary continues to provide essential services, such as crisis support and life skills classes.
The Big City Sleepout 2018
Last year, The Big City Sleepout raised money for The Clock Tower Sanctuary as part of their Urgent Winter Appeal. This year, Sleepout for The Sanctuary promises a gentler experience of outdoor sleeping with excellent music, food, drinks and entertainment.
