Spiegeltent is returning to Brighton Fringe this year with a vengeance. They return with more events than ever before, with some selling out weeks in advance. Brighton Speigeltent was built in around 1920 and comes to our city from Belgium. Vintage mahogany, red velvet and a century’s worth of grease paint make this one of the most unique venues in Brighton. Affectionately referred to as ‘Spiegel’ the event is ever-growing in popularity with many Brightonians seeing it as highlight of their summer. Situated right in the heart of Brighton at the Old Steine, Spiegel is a hub of activity and fun for the duration of the festival. The fountain of the Old Steine is surrounded by The Bosco Theatre, the Spiegelpub, the gardens of the steine and of course, the Spiegeltent. There are only a handful of tents left in the world like this one, with Speigeltent directly translating as ‘mirror tent’ in Dutch. There are 9 left from the early 20th century and 12 which have been more recently built.

There is a plethora of events happening across the course of the month. This year it’s home to the biggest programme of drag, music and theatre to date with over 210 shows and events from over 93 production companies. Just some of the acts include Courtney Act, English Disco Lovers, Ragroof Tea Dance, Daisy Campbell in Pigspurts Child, Swing Patrol, Club Du Fromage, Cat Loud, Carla Lippis, Gypsy Disco and so much more all gracing their stages.

This Friday night  head down and celebrate as there will be endless music and booze to guide you into the weekend and the beginning of summer. They haven’t disclosed who their vendors will be yet but judging by the last four years, the food will be at the top of it’s game too. They encourage local produce and local beers into the venue as a way of honouring Brighton’s individual spirit. Head down on Friday to eat, drink and dance to your hearts content.
