In recent years, vinyl records have seen a huge resurgence, becoming the preferred way of listening to music for many music fans. The growing success of Record Store Day proves this and for the past few years those of you that have been brave enough to venture into the laines on that Saturday in April have seen the huge queues forming outside some of Brightons best-loved record shops. Vinyl is a great way of reconnecting with your favourite album and no doubt today there will be many a Bowie album being spun, but where do you go to buy vinyl? Though HMV and Tesco now stock vinyl, celebrate the great local stores by shopping in some of these awesome stores.

The Record Album:  The leading specialists in vinyl film soundtracks, they stock soundtracks in every category imaginable, from foreign films to war films they have every single soundtrack you can think of. Sat right by Brighton Station, The Record Album also stocks all genres of music, and is called a ‘treasure trove of collectable vinyl’.

Across The Tracks: SO MUCH VINYL. Across the Tracks have an incredible selection of records, and the owners really know their stuff. The reason they seem so all knowing? They stock the stuff they know and love, meaning that they don’t certain genres such as drum and bass or garage, but they do say that they try and keep every Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin and Bowie albums as well as decent range of blues and soul and funk. It’s well worth a visit.

Rarekind Records: If you are looking for hip hop, funk, soul, jazz and dubstep records then head to Rarekind Recrods of Trafalger Street. All of their stock is 2nd hand so you can find some real gems in there. They also deliver.

Cult Hero: A personal favourite, I have spent many years standing outside their shop waiting patiently for it to open on Record Store Day they have a great collection of vinyl as well as music DVDs, books and posters. They also do a great selection of cult films.

Resident on Record Store Day

Resident: Perhaps the most famous record store in Brighton, Resident has recently expanded their shop to make room for all the amazing vinyl they have in stock. They have all the new releases and as well as a long list of all their upcoming releases. They stock pretty much everything and it’s so worth a visit to one of the most popular shops in Brighton.
