Brighton found it tough to get going and never really found their groove, but after Lewis Dunk’s third goal of the season in the 27th minute, Brighton fans felt that it may be enough. However Nottingham came out all guns blazing in the second half, often outnumbering the midfield and launching dangerous counter attacks. It wasn’t long before Blackstock headed the home side level in the 50th minute, silencing the Brighton fans.
Brighton had severe difficulty moving the ball productively up the pitch before losing possession, encouraging the Nottingham counter attacks.
It was all destined for a 1-1 draw, when Steven Sidwell came onto the field and drilled the ball into the corner inside the 18-yard box after an assist from fellow substitute, Knockhaert.
Once again the Championship season turned on a dime, and all looked fantastic for Brighton when Middlesbrough were being held to a draw on Tuesday against Reading, until Adam Forshaw replicated Brighton’s last gasp winner and knocked the ball into the net following a goal mouth scramble.
The win for Middlesbrough set them four points adrift of Brighton at the top of the table on 82 points, with Burnley sitting behind them on 80 and Brighton on 78 with the same games played.
Brighton play Fulham FC at home tomorrow evening who sit 17th, just 10 points above relegation. It’s been a very inconsistent year for Fulham, but they have showed real tenacity against some of the top clubs this season. It is by no way a game Brighton can take for granted with a deadly striker like Ross McCormack up front, who silenced the AMEX crowd back in 2011 with two goals in a thrilling 3-3 game.
With only 5 games left to play this season, it is an enthralling finale to the season which has every football fan second guessing themselves. With Middlesbrough to play Burnley and Brighton yet, it could be said that they have the toughest run in. All that can be said is the final game of the season which see’s Middlesbrough host Brighton is sure to be one of the most anticipated games of the season.
